The new competitor to ChatGPT in artificial intelligence from China is a success story that even caused entire server farms to collapse. The demand for the new AI provider "deepseek.com" increased so rapidly within hours that the servers became overwhelmed.
This launch of new competition from China is especially stressing US chipmakers like Nvidia today. OpenAI (ChatGPT) quickly evolved from a freely available AI platform to a profit center. But now "DeepSeek.com" from China has arrived and is offering its services completely free of charge.
The race for market leadership is fully underway. It remains questionable whether and how important chip manufacturers will be if the efficiency of the providers requires lower computing power.
