Huawei, the Chinese technology giant, has made significant progress in 6G research and plans to conduct initial tests by the end of the year. This development could revolutionize the next generation of wireless communication and catapult Huawei to the forefront of global technological innovation.

What is 6G?

6G stands for the sixth generation of mobile telecommunications technology and promises to seamlessly connect the physical and digital worlds. According to Huawei, 6G will not just be an evolution of 5G but will enable new use cases such as enhanced mobile broadband services (eMBB+), ultra-reliable low-latency communication (URLLC+), and massive machine-type communication (mMTC+). Additionally, new applications in areas like sensing and artificial intelligence are expected to emerge.

Huawei's Vision for 6G

In a recently published white paper, Huawei outlines its comprehensive vision for 6G. The company emphasizes the importance of artificial intelligence (AI) as an integral part of future networks and highlights that 6G networks must fully integrate the "AI revolution" to succeed. Dr. Wen Tong, CTO of Huawei Wireless, emphasizes that 6G will be more than just an upgrade from 5G and aims to offer users unparalleled value.

Planned Tests and Timeline

Huawei plans to conduct its first 6G tests by the end of the year. Standardization efforts for 6G are expected to begin in 2025, according to the 3rd Generation Partnership Project (3GPP), with the International Telecommunication Union (ITU-R) having recently released its 6G Vision framework. These developments underscore China’s leading role, and particularly Huawei’s, in the next phase of wireless communication.

Impacts on BRICS+ Countries and Investment Opportunities

Advances in 6G technology offer significant benefits for BRICS+ countries (Brazil, Russia, India, China, South Africa, and other partners). By early adoption and development of 6G, these countries can strengthen their digital infrastructure, leading to economic growth, improved communication networks, and new business opportunities. Investors could benefit from these developments by investing in companies involved in 6G research and development, as well as industries that will benefit from 6G technology, such as the Internet of Things (IoT), autonomous vehicles, and smart cities.
